Happy Valentine's Day!!

13 Years... David and I shared our 13th valentine's day today! It's almost unimaginable- how quickly this time has passed- and how the years add up. Sounds so cliche, perhaps that is why it is a cliche, right?
The boys decided to be one another's valentines... Owen said, "Daddy you are mommy's Valentine, mommy is daddy's Valentine, Aidan is my Valentine... Aidan, are you MY Valentine?" A little love bug. They all are! They make me itchy with love daily!
(It's Valentine's Day... I'm supposed to be a bit sappy...)

I failed my Pop Quiz...

Yesterday morning while getting ready to leave for the day, Aidan was quizzing me. I have gotten used to this. He typically quizzes me on spelling of words, simple addition, etc. He wants to see if I know the answer. I often purposely get the answer wrong (or say I don't know) to see if he actually knows the answer, which he typically does. If I get it wrong, he will gently tell me the correct answer: "no mommy, 1 plus 1 is 2, NOT 3." Sometimes he says, "it's okay mommy, you just have to practice."

So, yesterday, Aidan said: "Mommy, what is five, two times, plus two?"

I said: "9" (Thinking that he was actually asking me 5 + 2 + 2, because of course he is not thinking in terms of multiplication yet, right? But I was checking by answering what I thought he was asking me "correctly")

Aidan said: "No, I said 5 TWO TIMES plus 2! That means 5 plus 5 plus 2. So that makes 12."

This kid amazes me! He has such a math brain... just walking around the kitchen spouting this stuff off. I still use my fingers to figure stuff out. (Oh dear- I know who won't be helping him with math homework- thank goodness for David's complimentary math brain!)

I think little brother is on that track too. He is picking up on his brother's counting- although he is definitely not as interested in it as Aidan. But I am watching him trying to make sense of it. He knows he is three. He compares things in his life to how many years old he is.

I think this happened yesterday morning too. Owen was at the table eating grapes. He pointed to his grapes- and there were three left. He said: "Look mommy, the grapes are three years old!" (Yikes!)
